A LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF

September 11, 2019

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyy Danny (because you currently spell your name with a y until someone will tell you that is the 'boy' way and you swap Danny with Danni)

Just dropping you a little note to say “IT GETS SO, SO GOOD!!!”

Only one bit of advice: Start tracking your moods connected to your period. It’ll help you out massively every. single. month.

Ok byeeee, Have fun!

Big Danni

It's the old saying: if I hadn’t experienced everything in my life I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

  • I love my life

  • I am grateful every single day

  • I have strong resilient mental health

  • I do something that I love

I’ve only got here, with this brain and this perspective, because of the shit times, the times where I've learnt a lesson or experienced the really, really hard stuff which comes naturally with life…

I was probably told all the standard advice which people think should be in these letters like: don’t date dicks, don’t waste time, treat your body like your best friend, be nice to people, be nice to yourself, enjoy every moment, school is the best years of your life (which I don’t agree with), don’t take out your own hurt or sadness on your friends or you'll lose them….

I know I was actually given all that advice over the years by parents/ relatives/ older people. But I didn’t listen. Maybe I listened to a bit of it but I’ve definitely done all those things which I was told not to do.

And I’m so glad I did. Because I learnt.

I learnt how to be a good person, how to be resilient, how to take responsibility, how to ask for help, how to say sorry, how to know what I want and what I don’t want, how to empathise with others, how to love, how to protect myself, how to fight for other people.

So I don’t want to give my younger self any of the standard advice because I want her to do all of what I did, and didn’t do.

In some weird alternate reality… if I gave her advice and she took it, then I wouldn’t exist anymore… and I like existing just as I am.

But yeah, understanding how much I’m impacted by my cycle would’ve really helped. That’s a nice gift to give her.
